The Color Of Water (Part.2)

I am still reading The Color of Water by James McBride. So far I read about James mother, Rachel/Ruth, and found out that when she was fifteen she was pregnant with her first child. The man that got her pregnant was a black man named Peter. Ruth's father was very racist and would have gotten a gun and killed both of them on the spot.
Peter would see Ruth at the store but suddenly he stopped visiting and she was very devistated. Ruth never told anyone of her pregnancy but one day her mother, Mameh, told her that she should visit her grandmother. Ruth went to New York where her grandma lived and the grandma could see something would be bothering Ruth. Her grandma would keep asking her, "What is wrong?" and Ruth would deny being bothered but one day she confessed. The grandma looked up a Jewish doctor and made an appointment for Ruth. That day Ruth had an abortion.

That was the most shocking part I read in the book. I felt pity for her because her life like a secret, no one in her family ever shared feelings and keeped everything bottled up.
